URBAN ARCHITECTURE

Unique Urbanist Settings and Historical Zones

Havířov

The entire city center has been built in the monolithic style of the sumptuous and spectacular socialist realism.

The historical zone of the youngest city in the Czech Republic offers views of wide boulevards lined with buildings adorned with many decorative features. Recently, the hockey-themed online TV series Lajna (The Line) was shot in Havířov.

Ostrava-Poruba

A wide boulevard with an emphasis on symmetry and decorativeness, unique clusters of buildings, parks and quadrangles – these all define socialist realism in Poruba’s architecture.

The Ostrava-Poruba city district is known for its 1950s socialist realism architecture, in Czech abbreviated to “sorela”, inspired by the design of Soviet cities, but also hiding Antique, Renaissance and Classicist elements.

On tape, Poruba may be used to depict the milieu of any old Soviet city – as it already has in the film Babylon A.D., where the district’s main boulevard starred in several action scenes.

Ostrava-Vítkovice

The miner colonies, dating back to the end of the 19th century, have preceded their time thanks to their architectural impeccability and civil amenities.

The district of Ostrava-Vítkovice leads to the nearby premises of the former Vítkovice steel mills. The growing number of steel mill employees naturally necessitated procuring many amenities and social services.

As a result, colonies were created for clerks and miners, and institutions were built such as the civic center, hotel, hospital, fairground, schools, a nursery, town hall and church. All this under the common denominator of non-plastered ecru walls.

Vítkovice’s appearance allows it to audition for a role in any movie based in England, Vienna or the Netherlands.

Ostrava - Havlíček´s Embankment

The Havlíček´s Embankment in Ostrava offers a pleasant urban atmosphere with a characteristic water feature and modern surroundings. The landscaped banks, footbridges and surrounding architecture create an attractive backdrop for commercials, music videos and live action scenes. The location is easily accessible and allows for a wide range of shots - from panoramic views to detailed scenes by the water.

Ostrava-The Miloš Sýkora Bridge

The Miloš Sýkora Bridge is one of Ostrava’s most distinctive bridges, offering a strong visual and historical atmosphere. Its steel structure and the surrounding urban scenery provide an attractive backdrop for feature films, documentaries, and music videos. The location allows for wide establishing shots with the bridge’s iconic silhouette as well as detailed scenes with an industrial feel. Thanks to its central position, the bridge is easily accessible and offers various filming perspectives from both sides of the Ostravice River

Ostrava-The New City Hall

The New City Hall in Ostrava is an iconic Functionalist building featuring the tallest city hall tower in the Czech Republic, offering impressive views over the entire city. Its elegant interiors and representative spaces provide an attractive backdrop for feature films, documentaries, and commercial shoots. The location is easily accessible and, thanks to its architecture, ranks among the most sought-after urban landmarks in Ostrava.

City Campus Ostrava

City Campus Ostrava is a modern university complex developed as a new educational hub of the University of Ostrava. Architecturally, it connects several faculties into one cohesive unit with an emphasis on openness, natural light, and seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces. The campus also includes state-of-the-art sports facilities, such as halls, training areas, and outdoor sports grounds. Thanks to these features, it is an ideal location for filming sports-oriented productions as well as contemporary urban scenes.

Lipový dvůr, Ostrava-Vítkovice

Lipový dvůr in Vítkovice is a historic residential complex from the early 20th century, originally built to house employees of the Vítkovice Ironworks. It consists of a series of brick buildings with uniform architecture typical of industrial workers’ colonies of the period. The area has retained its authentic working-class atmosphere, with narrow streets, orderly rows of housing, inner courtyards, and original architectural details. This location is well suited for film projects seeking a realistic urban environment with a historic industrial character.
