HISTORICAL VILLAS

The city's historic villas, architectural gems

Villa Grossmann

This historic villa was built in 1922-1924 by the renowned Ostrava architect and building contractor František Grossmann, combining his family’s home and the offices of his company. Designed in a traditional decorativist style, the villa’s opulence immediately made it a focus of attention. Journalists described its palatial interiors (which included the family’s valuable collections of paintings and porcelain) as “fairytale-like”.

Flemmich´s Villa

The villa was built by the Krnov factory worker Theodor Flemmich, according to the project of the Viennese architect Otto Prutscher in 1914. It is a neoclassical residence, set in a beautiful garden on the banks of the Opava River. The interior is richly decorated – the dominant feature of the wood-lined staircase hall is a handrail column richly carved with bird motifs, the hall is separated from the conservatory by stained-glass windows with symbols of the zodiac. There are also painted wooden ceilings and other stained glass windows with heraldic signs of the city of Krnov and historical Silesia.

Villa Liběna, Landek
