The Moravian-Silesian Film Office recently took part in a working visit to the picturesque town of Krnov, where we had the opportunity to visit a number of interesting film locations. It was clear from the first walk through the town that Krnov is one of the region's unjustly neglected pearls. It is a town with distinctive architecture, rich history and an authentic atmosphere that has extraordinary potential for filming.
Although Krnov is not talked about much in the film context, the camera has already been directed here several times. Significant films have also been made in the town's surroundings, such as Murder, which was filmed in Krnov and the Osoblaž region, or Sensitive Man, whose crew used locations directly in Krnov, the Krnov region and the Osoblaž region.
During the visit, we visited several locations that could also interest other filmmakers. One of them is the elegant Flemmich Villa, a distinctive historical building with a unique atmosphere. Krnov Castle is also very impressive, offering representative interiors and exteriors suitable for historical and contemporary stories. The heart of the city is the picturesque Náměstí Míru with typical Central European architecture, which looks natural and cinematic in every season. No less interesting are the former textile factories, whose industrial character can serve for historical films, contemporary dramas and stylized projects.
The visit confirmed that Krnov definitely has something to offer film crews. The combination of historical architecture, industrial spaces and the intimate atmosphere of a smaller town makes it an ideal location for a wide range of projects. The Moravian-Silesian Film Office therefore believes that filmmakers will return here more often in the future and that Krnov will gradually gain the place on the film map that it undoubtedly deserves.
Krnov is also a city of film and audiovisual events. The experimental film festival KRRR! is held here every year and the Forrrmááát festival, focused on contemporary audiovisual work. Thanks to them, the city has a vibrant film environment and tradition that naturally connects to the attractive local locations.
