The Moravian-silesian region will support three new film projects

Updated: Aug 12

The next three films will be shot in the Moravian-Silesian region. Their production will be financially supported by the Moravian-Silesian Region from its budget.

The region is also planning to announce a subsidy program that would further increase the interest of filmmakers in the region. We will inform you about the announcement of a new program, so-called movie vouchers, as soon as it becomes relevant.

"We want filmmakers to choose the Moravian-Silesian region for filming more often. I am convinced that here we have interesting places for the camera, quality services and also talented people. Filming will help raise the visibility of the region, strengthen the local economy and help local film industry suppliers," said Lukáš Curylo, Deputy Governor of the Moravian-Silesian Region for Culture and Heritage Preservation.

The regional representatives approved a subsidy of 4.2 million for the filming of a feature-length film about para-hockey. With the realization of which, our Film Office also contributed to the wine in the search for suitable premises.

"The film's screenwriters were inspired by real stories and a world event - the Ostrava 2019 Para-Hockey World Championship, which was indelibly written in the history of world para-hockey and the Paralympic movement. This film project is a huge promotion of the Moravian-Silesian region and the city of Ostrava. A third of the movie scenes will be shot here, including the tournament itself in the Ostravar Arena. In addition, during filming, an important international parahockey tournament, the International Para Hockey Cup 2024, will take place here, with the participation of the best teams in the world. This tournament will also be shown in the film," Curylo said, adding that the pilot episode of the series Misty was also filmed in the Moravian-Silesian region. The production of this work will also be able to count on an individual subsidy from the Moravian-Silesian Region in the amount of almost 1.5 million crowns.

"The pilot of the series Misty is a very ambitious project. With the participation of approximately fifty local professionals from the television and film industry, it engages local talent and strengthens the regional cultural ecosystem. It was filmed exclusively in Ostrava and in other places in the Moravian-Silesian region, for example in Dolní Vítkovice, Štramberk or in Flašarov dola. The Misty series will offer viewers a look into the near future of Ostrava, using trick effects to connect the current visions of the city," said Deputy Governor Lukáš Curylo.

The regional councilors also approved a subsidy of 950,000 for the filming of the eight-part television documentary Zdař Bů, which not only deals with the history of mining, but also captures the present day of this industry, including plans for the future. The document presents revitalization works and successful projects, informs the public about the need to preserve mining professions and know-how in the construction of current and future underground infrastructures. It shows that the tough and dangerous mining profession deserves respect. The money from the grant will be used for the costs associated with filming, i.e. for fees, licenses, technology, services, transport, accommodation, sound and final assembly.

"We want to support audiovisual creation, i.e. full-length feature film, full-length documentary, project for online and television broadcasting and animated film in the years to come. The so-called film vouchers will draw funds from one of the calls of the Just Transformation Operational Program announced by the Ministry of the Environment. In the next two years, we could distribute almost fifty million crowns among filmmakers. I believe that more interesting films will be created in our region," concluded Curylo.
